Exhibition at Dovecot Studios, 10 Infirmary Street, Edinburgh
2012 marked the centenary year of the Dovecot Tapestry Studios in Edinburgh. As part of the celebrations Panel collaborated with the studio on an interdisciplinary collaboration that explored the skill of making, and its impact across art forms, through a collection of new textile works, a showroom and associated public programme.
The artists John Byrne, Nick Evans, Ruth Ewan, Alasdair Gray, Nicolas Party, Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan worked in collaboration with Dovecot rug maker Jonathan Cleaver to design six limited edition rugs, inspired by the archive collection of two of the most significant Scottish textile companies of the twentieth century: Stoddard International Plc and James Templeton & Co Ltd.
The rugs were exhibited alongside selected material from the Stoddard-Templeton Archive at Dovecot in a specially created showroom designed by Hit Studio and Steff Norwood.
