THE INVENTORS OF TRADITION COLLECTION 2011

Atelier presented their first fashion collection in 2011, encompassing high quality knitwear, wovens, raincoats, workwear and accessories. The collection used the best of Scottish manufacturing to realise a wardrobe for working women, specifically artists and those in creative and artisan professions.

The collection was developed as a part of the The Inventors of Tradition, which explored created notions of national identity through the lens of collected archive material from the Scottish fashion and textile industry since the 1930s. Atelier’s first collection extended this research into reality celebrating what is possible within the industry today.

The collection was created in collaboration with some of the most established and respected manufacturers still producing in Scotland. These include Mackintosh, Caerlee Mills, McRostie of Glasgow, Hawick Cashmere, Begg Scotland and Janette Murray Handknits.

A sample collection of the garments was presented for order throughout 2011 in Edinburgh, Glasgow, New York, Brussels, London and Berlin.
